“How do you inspire and encourage your students to live out the Mesquite Promise in their daily lives?”
Dr. Shawna DeLamar: I connect the Mesquite Promise to everyday actions, modeling it and creating opportunities for students to practice it. For example:
Model the Promise daily: Demonstrate respect, responsibility, and kindness in how you interact with staff and students so they see it lived out.
Celebrate small wins: Recognize and praise students when they make choices that reflect the promise—whether that’s helping a peer, showing grit, or taking accountability.
Make it part of classroom culture: Weave the values into lessons, discussions, and routines so that the promise isn’t just words on a wall but something lived.
